Now that the temperature has begun to creep up, many people are starting to get their houses cleaned up and ready to take on the summer season.
Regardless of whether you’re thinking of listing your home for sale this spring or not, it’s a good idea to get your property ready for summer.
This way, you can ensure your home is in tip-top condition for guests, visitors, relaxation or potential new owners!
Interior
Take a page out of Frank Sinatra’s songbook and let the summer wind blow in. Summer is all about opening up doors, windows and spaces to let in light and air. After months of miserable rain and cold temperatures, your property can become a little damp. Bathrooms and bedrooms can especially see a lot of interior moisture, so take time to air these areas out.
Think about placing a few potted plants near windows to help filter the air, or even install air conditioning or a ceiling fan for improved circulation.
You could also take this opportunity to give a few rooms a fresh lick of paint to ensure any moisture or mildew damage is taken care of.
Those living in areas with harsher temperatures and sun exposure, such as owners of real estate in Darwin and Perth, may want to consider installing curtains and blinds. These can help to keep the direct sunlight out of your home and protect it from getting too hot.
Exterior
It’s not just the inside of your home that needs to get ready for summer, the exterior of your property needs protection too!
Your garden can get extremely dry during the warmer months. To reduce the risk of your garden becoming a dry, barren wasteland, pay some attention to your soil. By regularly adding composts and mulches, you can keep moisture in the soil.
If your property has a patio or deck area, it’s likely you’re going to want to utilise it this summer. Give tiles and flooring a good scrub to remove mildew and moss, or re-stain wooden decking for a nice finish.
To prevent your house from becoming too overheated, it’s a good idea to provide some natural shelter over windows. This could be from trees and bushes, which can all provide some welcome shade.
Warmer weather also means mozzie season, so make sure your fly screens and window coverings are hole-free and repaired for the oncoming months.
